Hello all, sorry for the tardy newsletter this month. I know you are all on the edge of your seats for this one. I'll cut to the chase: no, our chickens are not laying eggs yet, but yes, they are all alive.
Our setup on our little farm that we have created is quite the well-oiled machine these days. I have recently been reflecting on all the work we have put in over the past year to get to this point. I mean, at one point last year, we were hand-pulling weeds and using what you would use to edge your lawn to take down huge sections of unwanted brush, walking back and forth hand-sowing seeds to compete with the ever-growing weeds, driving T-posts and rolling out fences, becoming a professional at attaching the fence wire to the T-posts, hauling out all types of debris, and figuring out how to raise chickens and pigs.
Now, looking at our four little pastures, it's pretty wonderful. We have actual grass pastures—our planting and weed-pulling has really paid off.
I am so grateful for the current state of our small and growing farm. This time, I am growing the next member: we are pregnant! I am truly in awe of God’s timing and constant deliverance. With our well-oiled machine of a farm, I am able to go down in the mornings to water and feed the chickens, pigs, and yes, Carol gets fed too. Carrying five-gallon buckets of water around to get water to them is no small feat, I will say, and I move the pigs and chickens to new pasture. Then, in the evenings, I feed the pigs and put the chickens up at night. It’s routine and simple, and I am thankful.
As soon as our ladies start laying eggs, you, farmers, will be the first to know.
